Les wanted to produce a tribute to his daughter Susan who died of a rare disease in 1974. He called on the services of Stephanie Boucher, a journalist with a science background, to produce a short but moving memoir of Susan’s life. Les and Stephanie celebrated the launch of their book in January 2009 with Les’s family friends, Dorothy and her daughter Susan. Les ordered 20 copies in a saddle-stitched (stapled) binding for distribution in his local village. Click here to read more.
Stan spent 10 years writing 140,000 words about his life in farming in Herefordshire and Kent. We helped him edit his book and choose pictures for illustration. Stan decided to have 150 copies of his book in paperback, gave some to friends and sold the rest at farmers’ markets and farm shops.

Sally and Peter had both retired recently and needed to occupy themselves. They decided to write a memoir together, each choosing to write about different incidents in their lives. Their co-production became an affectionate portrayal of each other, with some experiences differently remembered! We helped them edit their accounts into one manuscript, and then produced six copies in hardback for their family.
Ann had been researching her family background for three years when she discovered a distant relative was also tracing the family line in Australia. Then another relative came forth in Canada, to complete the picture. The result was a treasured family history, spanning three continents and prompting the discovery of many hitherto unknown cousins. Spencer had been brought up in South Africa and Indonesia before his family settled in the UK. His father was English and his mother South African. When Spencer retired he decided to trace his mother’s family in South Africa which revealed that his great-grandfather had married an Indian woman in Johannesburg, which explained why he and some of his cousins had olive-coloured skin. He recorded this and other fascinating facts in a family history and produced 50 copies in a large format paperback.
June’s grandfather had founded a small bakery in the early 1900s. Her father had expanded the business, opening a second bakery. June married Stephen who came into the family business and opened a further five bakeries. Stephen handed over the reins to his son Phil, who decided to sell the flourishing business to a larger chain of bakeries. June decided at this point to record the company history which had involved four generations of her family. With the help of You By You she produced six hardback copies of the book for members of the family.
Bill wanted to produce a snapshot of his country lane in Surrey after becoming intrigued by the history of some of the houses there. His collective memoir was filled with neighbours’ contributions, who also shared the costs of publication.
