Congratulations to our Winner and Runners-Up! We have been delighted with the standard of entries and that the topic has proved to be so inspiring.
For this reason, we decided to award four Runners-Up prizes rather than three. A further 11 Highly Commended stories can also be read below.
In the centenary of the year that women were first given the vote, our entrants wanted to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere.
We received a high number of entries from all parts of the UK, and some from Europe, and the subjects chosen were truly international.
In choosing our final few, we were influenced not just by the character portrayed but by the power and style of the writing. There was also a balance to be struck between entries that extolled the virtues of public figures, and those that recounted the impact on their lives of private individuals.
1st prize: £100 National Book Tokens
Runners-up: £25 National Book Tokens
We received so many outstanding entries that we would also like to celebrate some of the others.
