Congratulations to our Winner and Runners-Up. We were delighted with the high standard of writing and the variety of stories we received.
Many entrants chose a family member to write about, but their influences ranged from the inspirational to the benign and the occasionally destructive.
The winning entrants all captured both the character of the person who had influenced them, and a self-awareness of how they had been affected as a result. Balancing these two elements often involved a seamless journey across continents and centuries.
Another influence was a person met, perhaps briefly, but what they had said or how they had behaved had resonated down the years.
Thank you to everyone for their stories. We hope you enjoy the winning entries: click on the title to read each story.
