The 1935 Royal Jubilee |
The village held a day of celebrations to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary in May 1935. It was a day off school and work, the High Street was decked with bunting and villagers turned out in hundreds to watch maypole dancing and a procession that featured Mollie and Vera Stapley in a horse-drawn carriage, dressed up as the famous Biddenden twins, Elisa and Mary Chulkhurst. |
